So this is a printer that works well in a wide variety of environments. However, if you are in a kitchen or some area where the air is moist you may want to get an impact printer as thermal paper does not work well in moist environments where there is little ventilation. I recently ran into a situation where I had multiple vendors — all using individual Square accounts — that needed to be able to print receipts from a centralized receipt printer. I discovered that it’s possible if you have right printer. Let me show you how this is done, so you can avoid the confusion and headache of having to solve this issue on your own.
It is a simple process all I can think is that square gets a percentage of royalties from their supported printer sales and thats why they are locking everything down to these ridiculously overpriced pieces of equipment.

You can add your logo and text to your receipt. This is done with software that is included with the receipt printer. By adding your logo to your receipts you have a place to advertise your business. You can also put your phone number on your receipt or your website URL. This is a good thing to do if you’re selling at a craft show, fair, farmers market and etc. The customer may not remember your name and may not go online to search for your website. But if you put your website on the receipt you have a better chance of the customers visiting your website to make a purchase.
As VanKalkerFarms answer states, Point of Sale is not compatible with standard desktop printers at this time. A possible solution might be to view your receipts on your online Dashboard after the transaction is complete and you can print them from there on a desktop printer.

Some POS software has specific hardware and driver requirements, so it is important to double check before buying a receipt printer. For instance, some software requires OLE for point of sale drivers, otherwise known as OPOS, while others work fine with Windows, Mac OS, or Linux drivers. Epson receipt printers offer compatibility with most OPOS drivers and have their own Windows drivers, so they are smart choice if you are uncertain which drivers you need.

POSGuys.com carries a wide variety of receipt printers, ideal for many budgets and applications. The most important consideration is what printers are compatible with your POS software. Aside from that, you will want to determine what kind of interface you need, whether you need an auto cutter, or if you have environmental restrictions that would prevent some printers from working well.
Hi @McNabbGames — I went ahead and combined your thread with another seller’s who had a similar question. I can assure you that we’re always looking into more affordable hardware options for our sellers. As for the technical explanation, from my limited understanding (I’m not an engineer), each printer manufacturer has a specific driver for their hardware, and since manufacturers don’t build printer drivers for Square Register, we would have to build one for each printer model – which is something we don’t have the bandwidth to do.
Acts as a regular printer, you install it, and print whatever you want to it and it automatically scales it down to the margin on the printer paper and done deal(No need to go around playing with settings) NOTE: CHROME STILL LIKES TO USE 2 MILES OF THE PAPER SO I DONT KNOW ABOUT CHROME AS MY POS FRONT END. I USE FIREFOX OR OPERA)
Just click the Transaction and the Receipt will preview on the right-hand side. At the bottom, you’ll see the receipt number (ex: Receipt #H8R5). Click that and it will show you the digital version of the receipt. From there you’re good to print on the standard 8×11 printer paper.

Ink jet receipt printers use the same type of technology you see in home printers, using tiny nozzles to spray ink onto receipts. With ink jet printing, you can add color logos or other personalized elements to your receipts. However, you do have to buy replacement ink jet cartridges, adding to the long term costs.
We expanded and I just reordered the last one through Amazon. What came in was the TM-20II. Different power cord than the last one which lead to some wiring problems but overall a much faster printer!!!
Many receipt printers on the market offer cross compatibility with major brands and command sets, giving you more options if you need to replace an aging receipt printer. This is an impact printer. So it makes a noise when it prints. Why would you want this? You might want it if you are in an area such as a kitchen where thermal paper receipts don’t print as well because of moisture in the area. You would not want this noise around customers. But if you have a moist area such as a busy kitchen this impact printer may be what you can use. Here is the user manual for the Star Micronics SP742ML.

The printer that Square supports is one of the largest used brands in the receipt printer market. They are not getting kickbacks on printers as the printers are sold by hundreds of places including Amazon, and the buyer doesn’t know you are buying it to print with Square as the printer is also used by 100s of other POS systems. More printer options would always be better, but as this is one of the industry standard printers it only makes sense they support it.
That’s it. You should now be able to print from Square to your receipt printer. You can run a test print as well as enable/disable receipts/order tickets. Anyone within the business that uses Square (whether they use Android or iOS) should be able to print to that same printer. This avoids everyone having to purchase separate printers.
Impact receipt printers are some of the longest running on the market. Similar to the older tractor-feed style printers of the 1980s, these printers use a series of small pins to press and transfer ink from a ribbon onto receipts. Many impact receipt printers can print up to two colors using special two-tone ribbons, making them a smart choice for businesses where order changes need to be stark and apparent.

This printer is fast and has useable options. I use it with my iPad and Square credit card reader. You can also use it for POS or other systems or configurations. Using it with Square credit card processor I save paper because I only print the customer copy because all the other transaction data is accessed online. And when I tap print on my iPad it starts and completes the printing in just one second. I saw this printer being used at my local drug store with a different setup and it too works well. Give it a try and I think you’ll be glad you did.
