I looked around for a hardware bundle for my Square POS setup and ultimately went with this combination. Very pleased with the product and the seller’s follow up was excellent. They answered several of my questions quickly and over the holiday weekend.
I have my own iPad 2 and square stand. I was Looking for compatible hardware and this was excellent. The register and printer work great, I even ordered more papers for the printer so we will use it long term.
A simple print button on the tablet application would allow us to connect to a local or network printer and print the same form data. Why is this still impossible? Why can we still not utilize our desktop or local printers to print receipt data from the app?

I have a friend who runs a small shop and knew the Esky ES-CD01 Heavy Duty RJ-12 Key-Lock Cash Drawer would be perfect for his application. This drawer was a massive upgrade to the system he had been using. He had tried other drawers with different connections and designs, however this one was really the best.
The rest of the peripheral library code was also reusable. Admittedly, our deep class hierarchy was rather intimidating when I first came to Square, but it ended up being possibly my greatest resource in writing this feature. At the highest level, Register has a Peripheral class to model every hardware device we support. It includes common properties like manufacturer name, model name, and its connection state. At the next level down is the Printer class, which encapsulates printer-specific information like the kind of data it can print and its print width, as well as abstract methods for printing images and text. Having this infrastructure in place made the design of the Bluetooth printer class clearer, and provided a clean, generic API for the rest of the app to use to print images and text to any printer, leaving the low-level details of the printer communication to the subclasses.
I am sure that this has been asked and answered, but the search feature on this communities site is not very robust and the information I’ve been able to gather from square/communities is not entirely clear. So I am asking again (maybe).

Square systems are primarily compatible with Ethernet or Bluetooth interface printers (depending on the tablet you are using, Android tablets with USB ports and USB On-The-Go or USB Host mode can use USB interface printers). The compatible printers for Square systems are as follows:
The printer that Square supports is one of the largest used brands in the receipt printer market.  They are not getting kickbacks on printers as the printers are sold by hundreds of places including Amazon, and the buyer doesn’t know you are buying it to print with Square as the printer is also used by 100s of other POS systems. More printer options would always be better, but as this is one of the industry standard printers it only makes sense they support it.
Overall, this is a great printer. I can’t complain about the price because for similar thermal printers, this is relatively cheap. Any cheaper and there are issues with printing mechanics and whatnot.
A rapid print speed of 300 millimeters per second, an easy-to-use cutter and a simple installation process make the Munbyn POS a savvy choice. It contains a free roll of paper and has the ability to print your logo directly on receipts.
Hi @McNabbGames — I went ahead and combined your thread with another seller’s who had a similar question. I can assure you that we’re always looking into more affordable hardware options for our sellers. As for the technical explanation, from my limited understanding (I’m not an engineer), each printer manufacturer has a specific driver for their hardware, and since manufacturers don’t build printer drivers for Square Register, we would have to build one for each printer model – which is something we don’t have the bandwidth to do.
Here is more information.

*Note: We have had some Sellers complain about the receipts printing over too many pages when they want it to only print on one. The trick is to reduce the scale of the image within your printing options until it fits. (see screenshot)
First and foremost, a little background info: I own my own business and have been using the Square Register POS system for over four years. I have a different kit, but they’re all similar products. When my friends decided to open their restaurant, they went with an old school cash register and struggled at the end of the night with keeping track of taxes because it was not as intuitive to use. I convinced them to order this kit from Amazon and the other necessary items elsewhere and helped them set everything up in less than 30 minutes. This kit provided an excellent, trusted printer and an easy to connect cash drawer. Upon arrival, I had an issue with the cash drawer – it would not open. A quick email (on a Sunday) to the seller, and he gave me advice and a link to an explanation as to how to fix the stuck drawer. Using his explanation took me a couple of minutes to fix it. I am a realistic person, and I understand that things don’t always go as planned, so I was happy the seller worked with me fast to come to a solution. I gave this five stars because of the customer service – you can find similar products elsewhere and they all work the same way… but the customer service provided made this an excellent purchase! Thanks EOM-POS!
Restaurant owners need receipt printers that are heat and humidity resistant as they will likely place them in the kitchen where their staff can quickly receive new orders. Busy businesses that have a lot of staff moving around should look for a receipt printer in a sturdy clamshell housing that can survive being knocked over. If someone needs their receipt printer to communicate with several computers, they should get one with Ethernet and local area network connectivity.

Receipt printers can have several notification features that can be incredibly useful. Some models will alert the user if there has been a loss of Internet in the middle of a printing job, and others buzz to notify the user that the printing job is done. The latter feature helps keep the user from ripping out the receipt before it’s complete, and having to start all over again. There are also models with LED status lights that tell the user important information like when the ink cartridge is low.
Thermal printers use heat to create characters. Many people prefer them since they don’t require ink or toner, which can be quite costly to replace after years of doing business. In fact, thermal printers are one of the top money-saving tools used by companies who do a lot of shipping labels. Thermal printers use coated thermochromic paper, and the thermal head heats up the areas where it needs to create characters. The heat causes the coating on the paper to turn black, resulting in the desired content. Thermal printers are usually faster than Dot-matrix or Inkjet models since the characters are created in one movement.
