Bluetooth printers have an emulation type like most desktop printers, so the receipt format and capabilities of the printer are tied to that emulation.  The most popular emulations are Epson emulation and Star Emulation.

Hi @McNabbGames — I went ahead and combined your thread with another seller’s who had a similar question. I can assure you that we’re always looking into more affordable hardware options for our sellers. As for the technical explanation, from my limited understanding (I’m not an engineer), each printer manufacturer has a specific driver for their hardware, and since manufacturers don’t build printer drivers for Square Point of Sale, we would have to build one for each printer model – which is something we don’t have the bandwidth to do.
Purchased this item OCT 2014. Fast printing and compatible with Microsoft POS 2.0. It’s a reliable receipt printer that power on 16 hrs / day and 7 days / a week at my liquor store. I would buy it again if needed for my other business.
The STAR MICRONICS SM-T300I is also a light weight receipt printer. But it’s very durable and rugged. It’s also Apple MFi certified for iOS phone and iPads. It also works with Android and Windows. It’s been tested to take a little bit of beating and is used by people who are outside a lot. Having said that the price is higher than other printers. If you need something rugged, this device may be the one for you. But if you don’t. You will want to look at something else as this device can get expensive. The SM-T300i is easy to use. There is a well written and very detailed user manual. The user manual gives details on how to configure the receipt printer and how to load paper. Here is a link to the Star Micronics SM-T300i User Manual.
It supports 58mm width thermal paper printing, with high printing speed, clear printing & low noise. You can connect your devices with the printer via BT 4.0 & 3.0, USB cable or serial port line. Prin…
For example if the printer was set to 192.168.192.168, the computer could be set to 192.168.192.167. After proper set-up you should be able to open and talk to the printer directly. Just enter the IP address (192.168.192.168 in this example) of the printer using a browser.
Your POS-X Ethernet printer must be connected to a TCP/IP network, either to a router or switch, to which your computer is also connected. Once you have connected the printer, follow these steps to configure it:
Acts as a regular printer, you install it, and print whatever you want to it and it automatically scales it down to the margin on the printer paper and done deal(No need to go around playing with settings) NOTE: CHROME STILL LIKES TO USE 2 MILES OF THE PAPER SO I DONT KNOW ABOUT CHROME AS MY POS FRONT END. I USE FIREFOX OR OPERA)
That’s it. You should now be able to print from Square to your receipt printer. You can run a test print as well as enable/disable receipts/order tickets. Anyone within the business that uses Square (whether they use Android or iOS) should be able to print to that same printer. This avoids everyone having to purchase separate printers.
Really solid receipt printer. Less expensive than 90% of the machines in its class, but it holds its own without an issue. Installation was slightly more involved than other reviewers had let on (it helps to know which port you’re connecting this through), but overall it was still pretty simple to get working. Just make sure that you don’t have an old version of the Epson receipt print driver on your computer, as this can cause the installation to fail.
Thermal Head : Thermal head has been cleaned and tested for quality. Self test 1,2 and a connectivity test prints(See pictures for references) were used to confirm quality. If a printer fails thermal …
The printer is compact, prints clearly, and has absolutely no issue when printing a receipt for my Square sales. The fact that it is blue tooth meant I could put it anywhere in my home office that was convenient and not tied down by the length of a USB cord otherwise. I have it linked up to an old iPhone 4s phone and run credit cards using Square and print receipts easily. I’m so pleased that I paid some more money and got the blue tooth version.
An Ethernet connection uses the existing network to connect the  computer to the POS printer.  The printer plugs into the LAN and, once configured, the computer can use the printer like it was attached directly.
Option 2 (Ethernet II or Ethernet III): Use the Epson Ethernet Interface Configuration Program for this series of adapter,  EEIUtil.exe,  The program will discover all Epson Ethernet printers on your network and allow you to reconfigure them. Note: the TMNetWinConfig is not compatible with this model of adapter.

This product worked well the first 4 weeks with the Square POS and the past few days the printer has not been printing continuously. The iPad states, “Printer Error” and the printer must be shut off and paper drawer opened up and turned back on again. There are NO returns on this item through Amazon so buyers please be aware. I am in the process of working directly with Star Micronics.
We had trouble connecting this printer over WiFi, but I contacted support via WhatsApp and an agent connected with me right away (despite a 13-hour time zone difference between us) through TeamViewer and solved our problems. I recommend them for their service.

In Windows you can access the wired Ethernet adapter in the “Network Connections” applet in the Windows Control Panels (Internet Protocol/TCP/IP properties, allow you to enter an IP address.) Make a note of the existing settings, you’ll be returning to those settings when your done. Set the IP address to an address in the same domain as the adapter. For example of the adapter shows an IP address of 172.16.10.63 you could change the computer to 172.16.10.2.  Do not set the computer to the same address as the Ethernet adapter on the printer. You might have to reset the computer’s adapter for the new settings to take place.

For printing in Windows printers using Epson emulation tend to be the most compatible. For printing with an iPad your app must support that printer by name, the most commonly supported printers are the Star TSP100 and Star TSP650.
