If you operate a mobile food cart or food truck, THIS is the receipt printer you want. In all Honesty, it took me more time to read through the manual than it did to connect to my Ipad. For the record, I am using this receipt printer with Square Register.
Square has competitive rates against others, and as much as I don’t like them taking 3% out of every swipe for small businesses, but, it is a reliable way for clients to pay for services and they are consistent with getting it to your bank account.
I bought this little receipt printer to use with Apple Square Register iPad app to print out sales receipts for my fledgling nursery business. As a plug and play device it worked perfectly. My iPad recognized the printer under the Bluetooth Settings menu and connected without any trouble. The PIN, by the way, is 1234. I had some trouble finding that information. It is included on the Safety Information card. The printer is not particularly fast as others have noted, but the print speed is listed in the specifications and I’m sure it meets that speed. Just be aware that this is not a high volume machine. The receipt prints out at a nice little pace and its not so slow that you would find it unacceptable. Just don’t think of it as a modern, high speed, desktop printer. Interestingly, there was no operator manual included in the package I received. It was easily available on the manufacturer’s web site in PDF format, however. Once installed on the iPad, Square Register also recognized the printer and I was able to immediately print out receipts. The printer is a little bigger than I had imagined based on the photo. It seems solid and rugged and should hold up well in the field.
I don’t know if any other card processing services have a stand with a card reader built in, but in order to use Square, you need to use their hardware. There are different basic stands for other devices that you would use with the Square reader of your choice.
Ring up customers faster by customizing the order and types of tender that appear in your checkout flow. Don’t accept cash? Toggle that off. Accept more cash than cards? Reorder them. Go to Settings > Payment Types to start customizing.
If you are using DHCP (If a fixed IP address is not set), then connect a LAN cable to simply complete the connection. By specifying the IP address output by self-printing, print settings can be configured.
However, it would be super useful to have the ability to print two receipts automatically rather than having to go back to the activity screen to print a second one! We are a wine bar and wine shop and on the bar side of things it is useful to have two receipts, one for the customer and his records and one for the shop so they can input the tip if any is left on the receipt. I don’t think this is currentely supported at this time?
EOM-POS Thermal Receipt Printer- USB, Ethernet, Serial Ports- Auto Cut – Cash Drawer Port (RJ11/RJ12)- Paper Width 3 1/8″ (80mm) – NOT COMPATIBLE with Mac, Square, Shopkeep, Clover, Shopify, or Paypal
@Kpay I have both a TM-88III and a TM-88IV with USB and both show unsupported device when I plug them in, are these going to be supported for Square Registers? I have made sure their USB ports are initialized.
That page has a column for Register and it lists out all of the compatible hardware to date. It is the most up to date and accurate list, so it’s a good idea to check it if you have to get a new printer.
Is anyone else having issues with the receipt printer not working? It was working great and it stopped to work. The printer is currently turned on and when I go to settings/printers it says no printers selected and I cannot select the Star TSP printer. It is no longer showing up and saying No Printer (Station Disabled). Any ideas?
Great quality. The printer quickly connects to my Pixel 2 phone and prints reliably. You’ll need to install the software on your PC and then connect the phone with USB cable in order to change the print mode (I print thermal receipt paper, not the sticker paper). I couldn’t figure out a way to change the mode manually on the device. I recommend the printer to educators/administrators to help them print forms like passes and detentions throughout the day.
Bottom Line: With excellent design and comprehensive print software, the reasonably priced Brother P-touch Cube prints several sizes and colors of good-quality plastic (laminated) labels from your iOS or Android mobile device.
Why, for God’s sakes, can we not have a receipt that takes up a single page instead of three pages??? I’ve been a customer of square-enabled businesses for at least 4 years, and Square hasn’t come up with a solution for this? I saw where someone asked this question in April but didn’t get any responses. Please, please, please? Is there some setting that everyone else in America is using, but I’m not? Please help me.

Edit to say that the network issues I mentioned were tied to the wireless router we were using. Replaced that piece and the printer started working great. I still recommend purchasing as a package for better price and customer service, but not a bad piece of equipment.

Can you comment more on the fiddle WiFi connection? Have had the printer for 5 months for my daughter’s Pixel 2 XL and have not been able to get it to connect at all. Stays on ‘connecting’… works with my wife’s Galaxy Note 5… Kodak offers no customer support or info… can’t believe you recommended it. Maybe if I could see a pic would change my mind – help!
Because all of the drivers are included, you can basically plug this one in and you’re good to go – a huge relief considering how often it happens that you have to go hunting on the internet to install the right driver to get your printer to work.

This is one of the more common thermal receipt printers used with Square Payments. It generally costs less than $200. It come in white and black color. It has an auto-cutter to slice thermal receipt paper for you. It uses thermal paper so you never never need to fill it with ink. It is generally easy to maintain and add paper when you need it. So this is a printer that works well in a wide variety of environments. However, if you are in a kitchen or some area where the air is moist you may want to get an impact printer as thermal receipt paper does not work well in moist environments where there is little ventilation. Here is the user manual for the Star Micronics SM-S230i.

The M10 and M30 are very similar form factors, this is set to top load, this is set to front load. In the top load version, your cover opens up, your paper just drops in. The printer can also be converted to the front load version. In the front load, your paper drops in like so.
Update: After several months this printer is still working strong and still haven’t had a problem with it. I noticed a couple of people complain about receiving the wrong printer- well the reason they received the wrong printer is because they ordered the wrong printer. The title plainly states the model is TSP143U, USB. TSP143U is the USB model, hence the U. If you need the ethernet model you’ll need one of the TSP143L series models.
