With the common use of cards instead of cash, credit card readers (also known as MSR or magstripe readers) are an essential part of any POS system. Our credit card readers are designed to read the information encoded in the magnetic stripe located on the back of a card or badge. Many of our MSRs are even used to read driver’s licenses, gift cards, loyalty cards, membership cards, and other IDs. Fixed options exist for stationary systems and mobile readers are available for on-the-go devices – with iPhone, iPad, and Android compatibility. Simply choose a USB or Serial connection type, plug it in, and start scanning cards into your application. We also have a full line of EMV-compliant payment terminals.

The app-and-reader combo is definitely the most popular mobile credit card processing solution available for iPhone. It’s also one of the easiest to use. Businesses simply sign up for a merchant account with the provider of their choice and then download the provider’s app to their iPhone.
Great little printer. Very compact. Works incredibly well with Paypal Here on an iPad, setup was a breeze. Only wish would be a little more battery life as extra batteries are expensive ($60 each!). I used it for 3 hours and maybe a dozen prints and that expended about half the battery.

But as tech reviewer Joshua Sherman — who compared PayPal Here to Square and Intuit GoPayment for Digital Trends — points out, PayPal’s card reader doesn’t “sit” as well on top of a device as other card readers do, making it slightly awkward to use. The New York Times’ Pogue has a similar complaint, saying that the reader covers the sleep/wake switch of some iPhone models, which can be inconvenient for merchants trying to process a transaction.

Paper used (10,000 receipts printed on 80 x 300 mm each [3 inches by 11 inches], this is a conservative estimate to account for consumer copies of receipts that occur with credit card transactions) = 240,000,000 sq mm =  2,580 square feet of paper

Bought it to print off my Square register with an iPad Air and it worked perfectly right out of the box! No driver download, no ink to mess with – plugged it in, plugged in the USB printer cable (mine WAS included) added paper, went back to previous sales and hit print receipt & a nice clean receipt slid out the top. Seems very commercial grade & well designed. This is kind of a 5 star review for both this printer and the square register since they go together so seamlessly. Very nice.

HI, where does the binding actually happen? In findBT() you do Set pairedDevices = mBluetoothAdapter.getBondedDevices(); but that won’t return anything if no devices actually bonded with the device, correct?

Square Kitchen Printer – This is an impact printer. So it makes a noise when it prints. Why would you want this? You might want it if you are in an area such as a kitchen where thermal paper receipts don’t print as well because of moisture in the area. You would not want this noise around customers. But if you have a moist area such as a busy kitchen this printer may be what you can use. Here is the user manual for the Star Micronics SP742ML.
I’ve installed dozens of these square POS systems. They work fine on their own, just be sure to get the proper size/version to match your ipad, the connectors differ. To expand the system you pair it with a printer, cash drawer, scanner, and chip reader.

Atm it’s cheaper for me to use something else other than square, than to change the printer tablet setup. It appears other people have similar issues. Square managment need to grasp the economics here of only catering to a small hardware segment(Star printers) of the market, while marketing themselves as a simple DIY eftpos POS for small businesses, who burn themselves on compatability issues. Hopefully Square can solve this issue.
▲ NOTE: DO NOT support Square, Mac, TabShop lite, Open Table, O3POS, MobiPOS Lite and Kasse Speedy/PayPal/Intuit Gopayment/Shopify/Credit Card Reader/izettle/FileMake Go. Please confirm with seller if it support your application before order.
Square is not interested in using anyone but Star. And their attitude is that they frankly don’t care. I know, I have emails from them about it. If I was to guess, I would bet they have a deal with Star that funds their (insert pizza parties, to silk pockets). But lets be realistic. I mean it has to be something viable, right? The fact that Star uses the same print protocals that Epson uses has no bearing on an Epson receipt printer not working. It goes in the same line as Android devices can’t use bluetooth devices… although that new chip reader is bluetooth. It is a lack of customer service and they need to step up to the plate, or someone is going to come along and take their business away from them.
