This printer is terrible. It always has connectivity issues and it is constantly jamming. Worst mistake i made for my business. We have to keep it off until we get a customer otherwise it keeps printing no host receipts and it jams. Called star micronics they said it was probably an issue on my end. WRONG! MY other register, which is hooked up by same switch board, has an Epson printer and it gives no issues. Do not buy this printer for your business. Go with an Epson. Same amount of $, no problems.

But my point is that an adding machine paper-receipt looks unprofessional in some businesses.  An inexpensive ink jet or better, a multitasking network office printer that is already in use would make a LOT more sense for me.  I’m sure they are robust and work fine, they just don’t suit my business and I don’t like being so limited in the TYPE of printer I can use.
Don’t worry too much about speed. For photos, quality matters more, and even the slowest printers today offer tolerable print speeds, at about 2 minutes for a 4-by-6 on our tests. Keep in mind too that measured speeds are typically slower than claimed speeds, and (as we note in our reviews where applicable) the speed for any given printer may vary depending on the source you’re printing from.
I bought this printer to use with a Square stand – it is completely unreliable. After 3 days of use, the printer started powering on and off sporadically in the middle of use. All the wires are securely connected but it doesn’t power on if it does’t want to. I called StarMicronics directly about the issue and they basically said the USB printer gets its power from both the Square stand and the wall outlet (but mostly from the Square stand). In sort, if there is a power issue, it could be an issue with the printer’s connection with the Square stand…or it could be an issue with the hardware itself, but the only way to find out is to go through an inconvenient process to diagnose the issue.
I suggest that Square makes available some advice or a list of cheaper Bluetooth printers that customers could consider.  Also, please make the printing of receipts from the Square customer web site easier.

Impact printers are typically the most affordable and are suited to damp environments like a kitchen but they’re a bit slower than other models. Thermal printers are fast and quiet but require toner to function, and inkjet printers are fast and give high quality prints but are generally the most expensive.

I’ve only had it up and running for a couple of weeks now, but it prints and cuts the receipts well and have yet to have any problems with it. Drivers disc makes setting up and installing a snap, and it comes with any/all necessary cables. It even comes with a mount for wall mounting, but in looking at it I’m not sure how you would do that or even why someone might want to 🙂
Use the specially designed Vertical Stand when utilizing the TSP650II in a vertical orientation. The Vertical Stand provides a clean surface facing the customer, which also creates room for advertising.

Worked right out of the box. No hassle. I purchased this one and another Esky model that was a real lemon. Accidentally sent one of several messages meant to address the Esky unit problem to the POS Megastore for this Epson. POS were quick to tell me their 30 day policy was up and to talk to the hand. No 60 day, no 90 day, 30. Beware– if you have any issues, address them early because after 30 days these guys are done with you.

Also thanks for your suggestion regarding receipt options @thestationslo! At this time if your customer has entered their email address to receive a digital receipt the system only knows this after their card is charged.
The Kodak Dock is a great iPhone photo printer which allows you to print photographs directly from your smartphone device. It produces high-quality images at 4” x 6” dimensions, using an advanced patent dye sublimation printing technique in combination with a photo preservation layer, the latter to prevent the photographs from smudge, tears, or damage. It also comes with a docking system which can charge your devices as you wait for the prints. You can use the free Kodak Photo Printer App to add templates, make collages, and edit the output image.
Bought this strictly to print receipts with the Amazon Local Register iPad App and card reader, as it is the only receipt printer supported at this time by that platform. (Bought it used via an Amazon re-seller; works perfectly. It was easy to set up on the network using the downloadable Windows software. Once set up, my iPad and the Amazon Local Register app found the printer and linked to it easily. I haven’t tried using any of the other options (like printing our logo or printing coupons), but for what I bought it for it works perfectly. It prints extremely fast and clearly. The cutter works well, too. It is nice that it can be mounted to a vertical surface if desired.
Available interface options include Serial, Parallel, USB, Ethernet, WebPRNT, and the MFi certified iOS compatible Bluetooth printer. Optional accessories include splash-proof cover, kitchen buzzer, vertical stand, and wall mount (sold separately).
Every impact-based printer uses a ribbon to create receipts. These ribbons come in cartridge that fits into your specific printer. Many ribbons are available in black, purple, red, or a combination of black and red. Whatever the model, our wide selection of ribbons has one that fits your printer.

So in the scheme of “would we buy these printers?” it comes down to would we buy these instead of other Epson printers? I would probably recommend the T20II the most out of all the printers, I think for the price and features and warranty, the T20II is your best bet. If you are worried about space though, take a look at the M series, especially the M10, it’s very very small compared to older receipt printers. The styling on both of these are better than the T20II. If you’re looking for just pure performance, pure reliability, pure speed, the T88V is still your best bet. So that’s kind of the Epson overview of all their printers. Good printers, probably at this time not their best printers, but they are space saving options, and there are some unique pairing capabilities, so if you’re on a tablet or something like that and you don’t have a USB port, then take a look and see if a proper interface is available for you. To purchase these printers, or for more information, please visit us at POSGuys.com. Thanks!
However, other mobile payment processors do offer faster deposit times to bank accounts. Payments made through Square, for example, are typically available in a merchant’s bank account within one business day.
So the printer is not bad but the communication to get it hooked up is terrible. Then once I had added and downloaded the program to allow them to help, they couldn’t get it to work either – thank goodness my company’s tech support was able to dial in and route it. Works fine thus far
As Tom DeSimone wrote in his PayPal Here review for Merchant Mavericks, the app features credit card recognition software that allows merchants to accept a credit card payment by taking a picture of the card with their smartphone. This comes in handy when you’ve forgotten your card reader or need to process an impromptu payment.
